The youth of Our Lady of Refuge
Parish were inspired this summer
to make the popular "Foresight"
retreat at home in their own
parish.
This youth retreat has been
offered in the San Juan Retreat
House every summer for about 15
years.
This summer, due largely to the
efforts of Mrs. Yolanda Benavides,
the director and developer of the
retreat, history was made as the
"Foresight" left the San Juan
Retreat House for the first time
ever to reach out to more of the
youth of Roma and the surrounding
communities, including the youth
of San Isidro.

Roma Church Youth Attend Retreat
proponents, "is a three-day retreat
aimed at helping the youngsters to
deepen their awareness of God's
love in their own hearts and in
their families and friends; and
encouraging them to be more
faithful to Him and more vibrant
instruments of His love in their
families and communities."
The program consisted of film
and video studies, group sharing,
arts and crafts, skit presentations,
and music.
Over 180 Roma Intermediate and
Roma Jr. High youths from Roma,
the surrounding communities, and
from the San Isidro Parish
participated in the three retreat
weekends.
San Isidro students were hosted
for the three days by different
families of the community, as were
the retreat members from San
Juan.
The program was under the
direction of Father Roy Snipes,
O.M.I., parish pastor, and Yolanda
Benavides, coordinator of the re-
treats, together with other retreat
team members.
The program was held from
Friday thru Sunday, June 19-21, for
the fourth, fifth, and sixth grade
boys; June 26-28 for the fourth,
fifth, and sixth grade girls; and
July 10-12 for the seventh and
eighth grade boys and girls.
As a conclusion to each of the
three-day long retreats, a special
Mass was offered on Sunday by
Father Roy, followed by a luncheon
at the Parish Hall
Good, old-fashioned Starr County
hospitality was offered by the
C.D.A who helped serve and
contributed toward the June 19-21
students' retreat meals; by the
K C. members for their contribu
tion to meals served June 26-28;
and by the parishioners who
contributed for the July 10-12
meals; and in a special way by the
families who hosted the San Isidro
Parish youth and the adult leaders
from San Juan.
