TSTI Harlingen. including 16 from
Starr County, will be candidates for
graduation in ceremonies sched-
uled for Tuesday, Aug 1H
The cap and gown ceremonies
will be held in the Harlingen
Municipal Auditorium starting at 7
p.m.
This quarter's TSTI graduation
candidates come from 48 Texas
cities, including 29 within the Rio
Grande Valley, and from Utah and
Mexico.
Many candidates who completed
requirements in the spring quarter
will also have the privilege of
returning to Harlingen for these
formal commencement ceremonies
if circumstances allow An addi-
tional :S77 graduated in February of
this year
Ail candidates have completed
courses of study in one of 23 TSTI
or skill development programs
ranging from six to in months in
length. Gradautes will be awarded

Elodia Barboza
Elodia Barboza, 70, of Rio
Grande City, died Monday. Aug 3
of a heart attack at 1 p.m. at
McAllen Medical Center
She is survived by four daugh-
ters, Mrs. Sofia O. Wade and Mrs
Lorenza Trevino, both of Rio
Grande City, and Mrs Maria Flva
Morin of Cleburne, Texas, and Mrs
Maria Elodia Perez of Sugarland,
Texas; four sons, Antonio Olivarez,
.Jr . Santiago Olivarez, Sr., and
Gustavo Olivarez, all of Rio
Grande City, and Abel Ramiro
Olivarez of Arlington, Texas
She is also survived by several
grandchildren and great-
grandchildren
Methodists Analyzing Starr,
Other Low-Income Counties
A consultant contracting with the
United Methodist Church was in
Starr County early this week as
part of a study attempting to find
common factors among low-income
counties in the United States.
Karl C. Evans, who owns "In His
Service", a religious consultant
firm in Phoenix, Arizona, has
contracted for the study with the
General Board of Global Ministries
of the United Methodist Church.
Evans said, "My mission is to
find the common denominators in
these counties; to see what con-
tributes to the low per-capita
incomes.
Evans is traveling to the 25
counties with the lowest per-capita
incomes in the United States, as
part of his study. Elsewhere in
Texas, he has traveled to Zavala
and Maverick Counties.
Among the other counties to
which Evans has traveled are Lee
County in Ai..ansas, Tunica a:id
Jefferson Counties in Mississippi,
three counties in Kentucky, and
one each in Arizona, New Mexico,
and Colorado.

Pony, Colt Leagues
Considered Successes
Coach Frank Balli, instrumental
in starting up Pony league play in
Rio Grande City, has pronounced
the league's second season of
competition a success.
Balli also said that "the Colt
League, also in its second year,
was a success competing in
McAllen." The Colt League is
sponsored by Valley Mart.
Sponsors of the Pony League are
the Knights of Columbus, the
Veterans of Foreign Wars, and
Ceballos Funeral Home. Balli con-
tended that the sponsors deserve
much credit for the progess made
