Rio 4-H'er
Visits Chicago
Ysa Annette Gonzalez reported
on her recent trip to Chicago to the
National 4-H Congress at the
January Rio 4-H Club meeting on
Monday night.
Ysa's record book in health was
a state winner and won her the
trip.
landa Morado, her County
Extension Agent Home Economist,
says that "Ysa has a special ability
to bring about supporting common
action by groups of people. She is
one of those 4-H'ers who is always
willing to do more than her share
and choose a positive action to get
things done. You find a special
treasure in a 4-H'er whose attitude
is to do more than what is expected
of her...in truth the basic design of
a true leader."
Morado added, "She certainly
will serve as a model 4-H'er for
many youngsters who are pattern-
ing out their 4-H careers."
Morado said, "As an agent, I just
sit back and enjoy watching 4-H
members like Ysa receive their
awards for their efforts. 1 bask in
the sunshine of their achievements,
and most importantly, 1 take great
pride in the fact that they have
learned something real about set-1
ting personal goals, planning their
strategies, and achieving those
goals."
Veterans Grave Marker
Policies Changed
Starr County Veterans Service
Officerr Art Herbert says that due
to a recent change in the Veterans
Administration regulations, Veter-
ans' grave markers, which are
provided free for deceased veter-
ans, will no longer be delivered to a
post office box number address.
Herbert said, "With the very
high percentage of veterans'
widows or others ordering a grave
marker and having only a post
office box number, this presents a
problem for all concerned. While I
was discussing the policies of the
Veterans Administration with
Sheriff Gene Falcon, I mentioned
this problem to hi m."
Herbert added, "Sheriff Falcon
immediately volunteered to have
the markers sent to the County
Jail, using that street address He
further stated that he would have
personnel available to assist in the
loading of the markers, or if
necessary, he would have the A
marker taken to the grave and
properly placed."
