lost in three games to the Donna
Lady Redskins. Coach Noelia
Vasquez commented, "Donna played
an excellent, virtually perfect game,
and we were hurt by some team
mistakes." The Lady Rattlers won
the first match 15-6, but lost the
next two by scores of 15-12 and
15-9.
Vasquez commented, "The girls
are showing poise and they are
regrouping. Hopefully, they'll play

They played much better against La
Joya than against Donna, but I still
feel there's room for improvement.
Offensively, we're still playing

for 264 yards, mixed up deep
patterns with screen passes and
quick two-step drops to avoid the
rush to make the score 28-21 with
7:42 remaining. Rudy Trevino
scored the touchdown from one yard
out to give the Eagles the lead.
David Alonzo fielded the ensuing
kickoff and put the Rattlers near the
mid-field stripe in excellent field
position to mount their comeback
drive. However, as fate would have
it, the Rattlers would fumble and
exit stage right some of the "Rattler
fans."
The Rattlers got possession of
the ball once again and marched to
the Eagle 6, only to give the ball
up on downs with 2 minutes
remaining in the game. (Exit again)
The defense rose to the occasion
by containing the Eagles and
calling time out to get one more
offensive shot. (Exit a few more
fans). With one minute remaining
in the game, the Eagles called time
out on fourth down and went to the
sideline to discuss their strategy.
Rodriguez, the punter-quarterback,
was standing in the end zone when
he took the snap. He took one
glance to see if his receivers were
open for the first down toss,
realized that the option to pass had
been taken away and kneeled in the
end zone rather than chance a
blocked punt. The score now read
28-23 with 57 seconds remaining in
the game. (Exit no fans)
The Eagle kickoff was once again
fielded by David Alonzo, and he
managed to fight his way to the
Eagle 42. It was here that the
pancaking began to take its toll.
Hiram Saenz, Javier Cuellar,
Robert Garza, Mike Lopez,
Gonzalo Gonzalez and Manuel
Ozuna dominated the line of
scrimmage and downfield blocking
by Tino Benavides and Luis Rios
enabled the backfield of R.J
Ramirez, Basilio Acevedo, Bernie
Anzaldua and Teo Juarez to score
the winning touchdown on three
plays with 17 seconds to spare.
The winning touchdown came on
a five-yard run by Anzaldua.
Anzaldua caught the two-point
conversion pass to extend the
Rattler lead to 31-28. (Again no
fans exited Tom Landry Stadium).
Eddie Medelez's kickoff and
excellent coverage left the Eagles
Rattlers
(Continued from Page 1)
with 76 yards and 11 seconds
between victory and defeat.
Just as in the past, the Rattler
defense, inspired by their offensive
brothers, took control and stopped
the Eagles. Following the kickoff
return, the Eagles lined up in the
"swinging gale" formation where
everybody but the center is huddled
to the right of the ball. The center
then snapped a lateral to the back
standing behind the huddle. But this
trickery should have been saved for
Halloween as Zenaido Magallanes.
Danny Benavidez, Mike Lopez, Teo
Juarez, Knox Jones, Richard
Ouellette, Frankie Villanueva, Luis
Rios, Eddie Medelez, Eddie Salinas,
Michael Margo and the rest of the
Rattler defensive players rose up
and stopped the attempts of the
Eagle offense.
As the game ended, there was a
hush over Tom Landry Stadium. A
quiet that lasts for just a second in
present Lime, but one that lasts for
a lifetime in memory. One of the
greatest games had just ended. The
players for both teams were tired
after their total effort. The coaches
had lumps in their throats as they
knew, both red and maroon alike,
that they had just been a part of
history. The fans walked humbly to
congratulate the participants who
were congratulating each other.
Coach Pena, obviously overcome
by the emotion of the moment, had
few words for the gathering of
Rattlers and fans in the middle of
the field. He praised the players and
his staff and awarded the game ball
to the offensive line and the entire
defense. For a good 30 minutes,
everyone shook hands and
congratulated the players, coaches
and themselves.
The Rattler offense racked up 28
first downs, 353 yards rushing and
485 total yards. Besides the rushing
efforts of Acevedo and Anzaldua,
Teo Juarez carried 15 times for 52
yards and R.J. Ramirez carried 9
times for 23 yards.
Ramirez completed 3 of 6 passes
for 94 yards and Anzaldua
completed 2 of 4 aerials for 38
yards. Luis Rios made one
reception for 54 yards, Juarez
