Boy Scouts Spend Week At Camp
Members of l roop 93 returned lo
Rio Grande City over the weekend
after spending a week at Boy Scout
Camp El Ranch Cima near San
Marcos, Texas. Eight boys and
three adult leaders attended the
camp.
The Scouts attending were
Rolando Castillo, Daniel Garcia,
Ramiro Villarreal, Jr., Marcelo
Carrcra, Jr., Dagoberto Lopez, Jr.,
Jake Margo, Jr., Roberto J.
Molina, and Aaron Garza.
Adults attending were Rudy
Gonzalez, Librado Garcia, and Rev.
James L. Gebhart.
Robert J. Molina earned the
Leather Work Merit Badge, Rolando
castillo earned the Cooking Merit
Badge, Jake Margo earned the
Cooking and Rifie Shooting Merit
Badge, and Aaron Garza earned the

Wood Carving Merit Badge,

requirements for taking part in all
activities and having a good clean
campsite.

The Starr County Bas:" Club held
a tournament on Saturday, June 23
at Falcon Lake from 6 a.m. to 3
p.m.
This tournament was designated
as the club's family outing. Club
members were met by their lamilies
at the weigh-in, which was then
followed by a fish fry.
According to members, "the club
experienced its best tournament as
far is total weight is concerned."
The final results were as follows:
First- Gus Escobar, 17 pounds, 6
ounces; Second- Greg Miller, 15
pounds, 7 ounces; Third- Dewitl
Jones 111, 12 pounds, 6 ounces;
Fourth- Danny Gonzalez, 10
pounds, 14 ounces; Fifth- Michael
Ramirez, 9 pounds, 7 ounces;
Sixth- Mark Ramirez, 7 pounds, 12
ounces; Seventh- Juan Andrade, 6
pounds, 10 ounces; Eighth- George
Cabasos, 6 pounds, 3 ounces;
Ninth- George Cabasos, Jr., 5
pounds, 6 ounces; Tenth- Hector
Ortega, 4 pounds, 7 ounces.
The Big Bass of the tournament,
weighing 8 pounds, 11 ounces, was
caught by Gus Escobar.
A total of 31 fish were caught,
with a total weight of 107 pounds,
9 ounces.
The next tournament is scheduled
for July 14-15 at Choke Canyon
Lake.
Baptists To Hold
Bible Schools
First Baptist Church of Rio
Grande City and one of its missions
will he holding Bible Schools
during the month ahead.
From July 9-12, First Baptist
Church of Rio Grande City will be-
holding its Bible School. This
year's Bible School will be
conducted by a visiting group from
First Baptist Church of Winona,
Texas. The group from Winona
will be assisted in conducting the
Bible School by members of Green
Acres Baptist Church in Tyler,
Texas.

The Bible School at First Baptist
in Rio Grande City will begin at
2:30 p.m. each day.
From July 23-27, First Baptist
Church of Roma, a mission of
First Baptist in Rio Grande City,
will be holding a Bible School and
revival each day. The Bible School
will begin at 2:30 p.m. each day,
with revival services at 7 p.m. each
evening.
The Bible School at Roma will
be conducted by a visiting group
from Emmanuel Baptist Church in
Terrell, Texas.
From July 30-Aug. 3, First
Baptist Church of Seguin will be
conducting a Bible School and
revival services in Mexico.

The Rio Grande City High
School Class of 1981 will be
holding a meeting on Friday, July
13.
The meeting will take place on
Friday, July 13 at 7 p.m. at the
new Rio Grande City High School
Gym.

Sunday night's fourth of July Pageant. She is the
daughter of Kloy Rene and Sara Garcia and was sponsored
by Justine's. The Petite Miss division featured
competition for girls ages 5-6.

Rio Native's Husband Part
Of Naval Exercises
Navy Petty Officcr 2nd Class
Daniel Torres, whose wife, Nelia,
is the daughter of Rcynaldo and
Margarita Morcna of Roma,
recently participated in Dragon
Hammer 90 exercise while serving
aboard the aircralt carrier USS
Dwight D. Eisenhower, homcportcd
in Norfolk, Virginia.
The purpose of the exercise was
lo foster allied cooperation among
NATO's southern regional
conventional forces.
During the exercise, conductcd in
southern Europe and the
Mediterranean Sea, Torres took part
in a combined NATO exercise
involving armed forces from th;c
nations ol Italy, The Netherlands,
lurkey, France, Spain, the United
Kingdom, and the U.S.
A 1982 graduate ol Gladys Porter
High School in Brownsville, he
joined the Navy in October 1984.
