Service, Inc., for copiers
leases from Total Imaging
Solution, Inc.
Villarreal explained. "We
have decided to lease our
copiers from one company.
By using one company, it
will significantly save
money. This is better than
having many individual
leases."
The trustees approved a
Workers' Compensation
Service Agreement Fee
Schedule with Ji Specialty
Service, Inc. The board
president indicated, "We
renewed our contract. We arc
self-insured; they are our
administrators. We continued
with them as our
administrators. There was a
two "percent overall increase."
The trustees were given a
report on Adequate Yearly
Progress (AYP). Villarreal
stressed, "Every school is in
good standing in this
category."
County Fair seeks to
round up local talent
Organizers of the Starr
County Fair are rounding up
teams to entertain fairgoers
and provide a platform to
showcase local talent. All
Starr County dance,
cheerleading. folklorico,
drill dream, and band groups
are being asked to
participate. Performances
will be offered throughout
the three-day fair at Starr
County Fair Pav ilion from
February 25-27.

Brown said, "Starr County is
full of wonderful people
who have devoted their time
and their talent to the youth.

opportunity to showcase the

Districtwide Committee meets with CTE
The Rio Grande City C ISO Career Technical Dept. (CTE) met with the District-Wide
Advisory Committee Members on Jan. 12. 2009 to discuss programatic changes and
updates. The committee members come from different local career concentrations such as
business, banking, human resources, hospitality , trades, media, education and other areas
relevant to the courses being taught at the secondary levels. I he knowledge and expertise
that is shared by this partnership is a vital component in the instructional process. The

Starr County schools and
youth organizations are
encouraged to participate in
the 2010 Educational
Division of the Starr County
Fair. Pre-registration is not
required.
Entries will be accepted at
the coliseum from 10:30
a.m. to 12:30 noon on
Tuesday. February 23. The
contest is divided into three
divisions: senior division,
grades 9-12; junior division,
grades 3-8; and peevvee
division, grades Pre-K
through 2nd. All
participants must be students
in Starr County schools,
members of Starr County 4-
H clubs, or members of
other organizations within
Starr County (scouts, etc.).
Senior div ision participants
must be members of Starr
County 4-H clubs, 1 FA. or
FCCLA at the time of
completion of their project.
Entries will be in the
following six categories,
which are the same for all
age divisions: Category I.
Nutrition; Category 2. Drugs
or Alcohol Prevention;
Category 3. Health Personal
Hygiene; Category 4,
Conservation of the
Environment; Category 5.
Citizenship & Patriotism
(America or Texas); and
Category 6 Safety.
The following information
should be on the back of the
poster: Name of exhibitor.

organization (scouts, etc.),
Town where exhibitor goes
to school, Grade exhibitor is
in at school. Division (Sr.
Jr.. Peevvee). Name and
Number of Category (one of
the six listed above).
The student's name and
other information should not
appear on the front of the
poster. Entries not properly
labeled will not be accepted.
All entries must be entirely
the work of the person
entering the exhibit. If two
or more persons make the
poster as a team project,
only one winner will be
named and one prize given
The first name listed will be
the one recognized.
Schools, 4-11 clubs, and
other organizations need to
have their own poster
contest in advance of the
contest date. They can
award prizes and have their
own school display of
winners. They should then
bring their top ten winners in
each of the age divisions to
the fairgrounds coliseum
between 10:30 a.m. and
12:30 on the day of
competition for participation
in the Starr County Fair.
IMPORTANT NOTE: A
school with grades spanning
two age divisions may bring
ten posters for each age
division. For example,
elementary schools may
bring ten from the peevvee
division (PK-2nd) and ten
from the junior division
(grades 3-8).
Posters must illustrate . n
idea and deliver a message.
Creativity and expression of
theme are very important.
The following criteria will
be considered: idea
expressed, neatness, heart of
the message, balance,
color/color scheme, unity,
uniqueness, lettering,
appropriate of subject,
creativity.
Posters should be no
bigger than a standard size
poster 28" x 22", but they
may be smaller, including
half-poster size. Minimum
poster size is 8 x 11 inches
(copy paper size).
Registration of the entries
will he done by members of
the committee as they are
brought to the fairground
building. A $4.00 entry fee
will be collected for each
entry. Entries will be
tagged, and entry numbers
will be issued to each
participant. No entries will
be accepted after the
designated acceptance hours
unless they were already
waiting in line.
A panel of judges will
award a ribbon placing to
each poster and will select
the top winner and runner-up
in each category of each
division (Sr.. Jr., Peevvee).
They will then select the
Grand Champion (Sr.. Jr.. &
Peevvee) from the Top
Winners. The Reserve
Champion (Sr., Jr., &
Peevvee) will be selected
from the remaining top
winners as well as the
Runner-up in the Grand
Champion's category.
Judging will be held on
Tuesday afternoon, and
some posters from each
division will be selected to
be displayed,throughout the
fair. The Educational Poster
Committee will decide
which posters will be
displayed, as space allows.
All other posters need to be
picked up at 4:00 p.m. on
Tuesday.
