Nominations
for the
Instructional Leadership Awards
The first Instructional Leadership Award was presented to an administrator in 1988. In 1990, the award was ex-
panded to include teachers. Beginning in 1998 the Instructional Leadership Awards included a $1000 cash award
for each recipient.
The nomination of an educator for the Instructional Leadership Award is supported by letters from a school board
member, superintendent, immediate supervisor, peer, parent or student. A committee composed of public school
superintendents, principals, and teachers is responsible for the actual selection of the award winners.
Teachers nominated for the award must exemplify the following qualities:
* Demonstrate effective instruction
* Maintain a climate of high expectations for student learning
* Exhibit professional growth
* Develop positive family relations, and
* Implement site-based decision
The following qualities are considered when evaluating nominees for the administrator award:
* Support effective instruction
* Demonstrate a commitment to the school mission
* Promote professional growth
* Develop positive community relations
* Facilitate site-based decision making
