Fritz, David, Peggy, Mark and Matt Thompson
farmer. He graduated from Nacogdoches
High School. He attended Stephen F. Austin
College in Nacogdoches from 1924 to 1926.
He went to the United States Military Academy
at West Point from 1926 to 1928.
In early 1929 he went to work for Cabot
Corporation in Pampa, Texas, in charge of the
field offices and in late 1929 opened the
Thompson Hardware Company in Borger.
Fritz and Helen had two children, Betty Ann
and David Warren. Betty was born in Borger
on May 8, 1933. She graduated from Borger
High School in 1951, where she was always
very popular and active in student government,
and always at the top of her class in
scholastics. She graduated from The University
of Texas in 1955, and was a member of
the Delta-Delta-Delta Sorority. Betty Ann married
Dr. Joe Paul Tupin of Commanche,
Texas. They now reside in Davis, California
where Dr. Tupin is Professor of Psychiatry at
The University of California at Davis. They
have two boys and one girl. Their sons are
Paul, 22, and John 11. Their daughter
Rebecca is 20. Fritz and Helen's son David
was born September 22, 1935, but more
about him later.
From 1933 through 1942, Fritz Thompson
was a pipeline contractor. He served as
Hutchinson County Commissioner for 16
years, from 1937 through 1953. In 1953,
through 1956, he served as City Manager for
the City of Borger. He also served as Manager
of the Borger Chamber of Commerce in early
1953. And from 1963 through 1967 he served
as State Representative from this area. He
was in the legislature at the time John Connally
was Governor of the State. Fritz introduced
and passed much legislation that was
beneficial to this area.
He is semi-retired now, but still active in
farming, ranching, and real estate.
He was so active during the years that
recounting the organizations he served and
lead, are literally the history of the area.
Fritz Thompson served as Director and Past
Director of these organizations: Panhandle
Water Conservation Authority, Texas Tech
Foundation, First Savings and Loan Association,
Panhandle Bank
