Charles I read yours post marked Jan 28th 1862 a few days
ago. Well here we are but where we will be in a
short time I reckon nobody knows. I suppose you know
that VanDarn is our Maj. General. His command ex-
=tends as far North as Scott Co. Mo. eat to the St.
Francis R. South to Red R. + West of Ark. indefinetely
We are kept as usual constantly in expectation of something
big to turn up. a few days ago, we expected, to move to
Pocohontas which is Genl Van Dorns Hd Quarters for the
present now rumor goes that Price is driven out of
Spring field + as a mother of course we will have to
assist him I don't befieve Price has left Springfield
nor do I believe we will leave here in less than a
month  Some think not before April If we move to
Pocohontas I believe dont doubt that I can go by
your house + make that horse swap. China is in
good order considering everything some say better than
when I left Texas, but he has had three spells of
thumps the last of which he took to day tied to a
tree without any excercise at all.   I mounted him and
went through a pretty severe drill + he still had
the thumps + eats it dont seem to hurt him a bit
He is longwinded as any horse + I suppose he would work
without any trouble as he is perfectly gentle. There is no chance
to go to see you it is likely I can help you to some money
as I have plenty get Something over 100 dollars
