Perhaps, if you hav
sted, you raise your 1
thought of Atlantic City
resort We are wont to
thore resorts as bleak places In win-
ter, wlili bitfne winds sweeping over
the t-aiul stretches and whipping
mournfully the tattered remnants of
last season's lee cream signs Surely
no person bent on enjoying an Faster
vacation would go elsewhere than to
a southern resort ct rtninly not far-
ther north than Old Point Comfort, at
any rate. That logic Is passing, how-
ever, for nil that It was very well In
Its way and sounds plausible even to-
day The people of the eastern part
of the Fnlted States have come to
accept Atlantic * Ity generally its the pre-eminent
Faster meeca and the pleasure loving residents of
the middle west and the far west are gradually
taking the same view, although they had long
been accustomed to recognize it only as a sum-
mer paradise and the middle west to this day
reserves Its main pilgrimage for August, when
one may see in bathing at one time as many
people as reside in the state of Wyoming.
Just what ((inverted Atlantic City from a sum-
mer playground Into an all-the-year resort, with
especial fascinations nt Fastortlde, Is difficult
to del) rmine, although the residents of this pleas-
ure metropolis ascribe It ail to thfir discovery
that the (iulf stream comes nearer to tho coast
off Atlantic City than at any other place north
of Florida and thus moderates the temperature
and softens the ocean breezes in a degree not
enjoyed elsewhere. Candor compels the confes-
sion that there have been Faster .Sundays when
Atlantic City presented a decidedly chilly aspect
out of doors, and even under the best conditions
A magic wand hath touched the sleeping earth,
And at Its summons, lo, a glorious dawn!
To countless Joys rock, field and hill give birth.
And tnytiad triumphs In a breath are born.
Old winter's woe, like mist, hath rolled away
And over all a rose-hued splendor glows;
I.ove, pleasure, hope as (lowers adorn the
day;
Ecstatic peace in every streamlet (lows.

RESURRECTION. "Palm Maidens," each flourishing a festive gold-
embroidered handkerchief, go frot;. house to house
singing their happy carols.
Holy Thursday, rmllant with red sashes from
every balcony fluttering symbols of the bright-
ness of the spring Is the great egg-dyeing day.
With 1111* first egg dyed the fond mother forms tho
sign of the cross upon the face and neck of her
dear, wee nestling, saying: "Mayest thou grow as
red as this egg and strong as a stone" Then gen-
fly she places It beside the Icon of the Virgin
where It remains during the coming year -per-
haps for a tender reminder to the holy Image
of the wish that the earthly mother has Just ut-

the Joyous hymn Christ Is Kl-on" the glad out-

The pri<" t, holding up n lighted candle, bids all
"Conn anil light," and In happy confusion

With these little flickering lo"ches In tie Ir

are dosed and locked, l.oudly they knock, tin Ir
volci raised In so!, tun chant:
"1,1ft th'1 gates, O ye rulers

A voice within demands. ' Who lv

And the answer breaks forth exultantly "He
Is the Lord strong and powerful, lie Is the Ford

Home from the service, many slip red eggs un

th" little ones awake Faster morning they tua>
discover that Paschalla, the female personification
of Faster, has surprised the household with it
