EL PASO—THE STORY OF A CITY.
in the rich valleys of California, are selling as high as $2,500.00 to $5,000.00 per
acre and yet these orchards will not produce as much as Rio Grande Valley orchards,
the fruit is not so certain, the quality not so good and the freight rates to the Eastern
markets much higher. Besides this, the climate in the Rio Grande Valley is more
delightful than the climate of these other valleys.
POULTRY RAISING.
The Rio Grande Valley today permits the greatest opportunity possible for
poultry raising. Those who are in the business cannot raise enough chickens or
produce enough eggs for home consumption. I urkeys are all shipped into this
market and over eighty-five per cent, of all the chickens and eggs are received from
Eastern markets. Not only could every dollar of this be saved to the people
of this section, but eggs could actually be shipped to other centers from here at a
great profit—providing, of course, we get farmers to raise the hens, and conditions
are the best to encourage the egg industry.
There is no damp, wet weather nor severe cold storms; instead, abundance
of sunshine, good feed and green range supply the especial advantages for pro-
nounced success in the poultry industry.
LIVE STOCK AND THE DAIRY.
The Rio Grande Valley owing to its wonderful fertility, its adaptation
to all forage plants, the most favorable climate and abundance of pure water,
and the extensive tributary ranges covered with many kinds of nutritive grasses, is
destined to become the leading live stock center of the Southwest.
