EL PASO—THE STORY OF A CITY.
THE EL PASO FAIR.
HE El Paso Fair Association, an organization formed by the pro-
gressive citizens of the City of El Paso, and incorporated under the
laws of the State of Texas, is destined to prove a most important
factor in the general development and upbuilding of the city of El
Paso and the entire Southwestern country.
No other city in the world is more favorably located for the upbuilding of a
great Annual Fair and Exposition. Occupying a most important geographical loca-
tion as the main gateway to the great Republic of Mexico, and as the center of a
vast territory immensely rich in natural resources, El Paso is today attracting the
attention of the entire world.
With such opportunities awaiting them, thousands of people will settle here
in the next few years, and millions of dollars will be poured into this immediate
vicinity for development purposes. The people who are to furnish the millions and
accomplish the work must be made acquainted with their field, its possibilities and
the people and their requirements, and this is the splendid work the El Paso Fair
Association has undertaken. The object of our Annual Fairs will be to show a**
comprehensively as possible just what is being done in every line of activity, to assist
in every possible way in the development of mining, mercantile, manufacturing and
live stock interests, and to encourage production in all lines, and !hus develop the
resources and increase the population and wealth of the entire Southwestern country.
The first Annual Fair and Exposition was held the week of November 1st to
7th, 1909. It certainly was a splendid exhibition and a revelation as to the future
possibilities of such an institution in our city. Nothing has done so much toward
establishing friendly relations between the city of El Paso and the surrounding
communities. With our net-work of railroads reaching out in every direction, it
is perfectly natural for the people for hundreds of miles to look to El Paso as the
hub of industry, and it is the desire of the management of the Fair Association to
make this city an Annual Assembly ground for the thousands of people in this vast
territory, where they can gather each year at the "big fair," meet old friends
and make new ones, discuss the happenings of the past and prospects for the future,
forgetting their business cares and enjoying a week of recreation.
While the primary object of our fair is to display to the world the resources
of our great country, by splendid exhibits from the various communities, particular
attention will be given to all educational features, and the management will do
everything possible to interest, educate and please our visitors. Work has already been
begun on a bigger and better fair for 1910. and the people of El Paso and the
entire Southwest should give their earnest support to this splendid institution.
