EL PASO.
In presenting the fourth volume of the El Paso City Direc-
tory, the publishers desire to congratulate her citizens upon the
wonderful progress that has been made during the past year in
all lines of commercial activity. It can be truly said that there
is no city in Texas that is being developed in so substantial a
manner, nor in such a marked degree, as is El Paso at this
time. It can also be truly said that there is no city in Texas
whose citizens are more progressive or more active in reaching
for new enterprises, as well as caring for those already
established within her gates.
Since the publication of our last directory, many costly
improvements of public and private nature have been completed.
The City Hall on San Antonio street and Myrtle avenue,
which cost 131,000, is as cozy a home as any city fathers in this
broad land can boast of.
The Gamewell Fire Alarm System has been placed in
operation at a cost of $6,320; the Fire Hall has been erected
at a cost of $13,000, and is furnished with as good apparatus
and as brave tire laddies as could be desired.
The education of the children has been carefully looked
after in the shape of a $6,000 addition to the 3rd ward school, a
$13,000 building in the 2nd ward and a $9,000 building in the
2nd ward for Mexican children ; in addition to this, $75,000 in
bonds have been voted for general improvements.
