The Canadian Wildcat Junior
Varsity and Junior High football
teams continue to cut a wide
swathe through the District com-
petition—this week by plowing
through Spearman in a
three-sweep that left mostly
goose eggs on the visitor's side of
the board.
Junior Varsity
The JV Wildcats allowed the
Lynx one endzone incursion in the
first quarter of Thursday's game
before locking the gates in a 24-6
victory that improved their re-
cord to 5-0.
Quarterback Bryant Brock
found four different receivers and
finished the game completing
7 of 11 passes for 117 yards and
three touchdowns. Abe Herrera
pulled down the first scoring
pass—a 10-yard zinger from
Brock in the second quarter to tie
the game up 6-all. Ben Hill carried
it in on the conversion for the
go-ahead two points, and the Cats
never looked back.
ABrock-to-Hill 10-yard touch-
down pass and two-point conver-
sion—again by Hill—-made it 16-6
at halftime. The same combina-
tion worked in the third quarter.
Brock sent one up to Hill from
50-yards out for the final touch-
down, and Hill put two extra
points up to make it 24-6—the fi-
nal tally after a scoreless fourth.
Hill rushed fourteen times for
117 yards in addition to his two
touchdown receptions and three
2-point conversions. In all, Hill ac-
counted for 177 yards of total of-
fense and 18 points.
John Chaffin and Dominiek
Vasquez each picked of Spearman
passes for the Wildcat defense.
The offense put up 261 yards, and
the Wildcat D held the Lynx to
only 139 total yards of offense.

really stepped it up in the fourth
quarter by keeping the Lynx out
of the endzone," said coach Tim
Fletcher.
"We dedicated this game to
Trevor Schaefer, who is out with a
season-ending injury," Fletcher
said. "The kids played with a lot of
heart, and stepped up to the chal-
lenge of beating Spearman twice
in one season. It is a lot of fun to
coach such a great group of kids
that work so hard."
The JV Cats will face Panhan-
dle tonight following the seventh-
and eighth-grade games at Pan-
ther Stadium.
Iighth-Grade
The eighth-grade Cats needed a
little time to warm up the engine in
Thursday's 36-0 win over the Lynx,
managing only one touchdown in
the first two quarters. But the pis-
tons were all humming as the Cats
added four more unanswered
touchdowns in the second half.
Hadley Jackson's 3-yard
sprint lit the scoreboard in the
first quarter, and Alvan Morales'
run for the conversion gave Cana-
dian the only first-half score. A
10-yard run by Roger Guerrero
broke the ice in the third quarter
to make it 14-0. Alvan Morales
toted the note from the 10-yard
mark for another 6, and Coleman
Bentley sent one up on a wire to
Zach Knight for 2 more and a
22-point lead.
Blaine Barton's 10-yard scor-
ing jaunt in the fourth quarter put
the game out of the Lynx' grasp,
and a 75-yard punt return by
Alvan Morales, along with Hadley
Jackson's 2-point run on the con-
version, buttered the Lynx' toast
at 36-0.
"We did not play well until after
the half," said coach Robert Lee.
"The defense played a great sec-
ond half, and the offense started
working, cutting out mistakes, and
were able to score more often."
Lee gave particular credit to
his linemen for "a great job of
blocking," including John Godino,
Cal Dicky, David Lewis, Alex
Meraz, Josh Macias, Cesar
Hermosillo and tight end Chris
Dorris.
The Cats will take a 4-0 record
on the road to Panhandle this af-
ternoon for a series of games that
starts at 5 p.m.
Seventh-Grade
The seventh-grade Cats im-
proved to 4-0 last week with a 14-0
win over Spearman. Danny
Reyes' 25-yard run put the only 6
first-half points on the board, and
an 81-yard gallop by Fernando
Rosales and 2-point conversion
run by Clay Cockrell, finished the
scoring in the fourth.
"The boys had to put up a
goalline stand late in the third
quarter," said coach Jimmy
Chappell. "They then put on a
98-yard drive to put the game
away."
Chappel singled out the de-
fense for special praise, naming
Paul Lewis, Lynzy Praeger, Tim
Brock, Clay Cockrell, Leonel
Avila, Josh White, Jed Rankin,
Derek Loworn, Gabriel Rodgers,
Jairo Quezado, Patrick Kirby,
Martin Ocasio, Alex Reyes and
Danny Reyes.
The seventh-graders will line
up against the Panhandle Pan-
thers on the road today (Thurs-
day) in games that begins at 5
p.m.
