Texans and to foster an appreciation of art by all Texas youth
l gl   ig s Open to all students actually attending school grades 9 - 12 in Texas
(public, parochial or private) during the 1:i38-959 school year,     Wherever possible,
it is advisable that entries in the state competition be chosen at prior eliminations
sponsored by local Junior Chamber organriations.    Where this is not possible entires
will be accepted direct from sponsoring schools,
Ag     i~~s General       competition is divided into two age divisions (by school grades)
as follows
Division I        School grades 9 an: 10
Division II -     Sohool grade   11 and 12
Scholarship competition is I     mlLie  to students i~ grade 12,
Scela  rsan~s Entries will be accepted and judged for awards in the following classes
of works
Class A  - Paintings opaque or transparent watercolor    oil, mixed media, pastel.
Class B  - Drawings   charcal, :ink   penil, crayon or mixed media

types), seigraphs, doh,e
Class D  - Sculpture    ns e nte  lim  ed, to objects of less than 50 lbso in

Class E      Portfolios fr scholarhp (isd t         students in grade 12) must

J xdg ng      hi         Prior t   the public exhibition qualified Texas art authorities
will judge all entries and select winners    The public exhibitions will consist of all
winners plus as many more "honorable mention entries as space permits
Award   , Io Class award s  First, second and third place winners in each division (I
and II) in Classes A, Bp C and D will receive pins and two honorable mention ribbons
will be awarded in each division (I and II) in Classes AB B, C and D
II   Portfolio Awards   An SMU Scholarship will be awarded to the winner of the
state portfolio competition,    All work included in the portfolio  must be recent work
(done since the Joycee Competition of the preceding year),     Portfolios must conform to
all specifications set out above in Class E entire
