Christian rock band to perform free show
Julian Drive, a Christian rock band, is coming
to Sweetwater on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010. They
will perform at 7 p.m. at the Sweetwater Municipal
Auditorium.
Julian Drive is based out of Clarke County, Georgia
and travels the country bringing the message of
Christ to youth through "their music.
They began as a two-member group leading youth
worship at their church, but have evolved into a full
band and travel all over the country to bring the mes-
sage of salvation through music. The local concert all
began when a couple from the Sweetwater Church of
God, received a call from the band's guitarist/lead
vocalist Shane Bowers, wanting to set up a concert
for the Sweetwater Church of God.
"We were so excited. We had met them at Winterfest
in Dallas, but never dreamed that we could bring
them to Sweetwater," Roland Zumwalt said.
They decided to bring the opportunity before their
church and received overwhelming support. Their
church seats only about 150 people. They planned
to sell tickets to raise money through local business,
personal sponsors and fundraisers, rent a larger
building and offer it free of charge to the general
public. This idea sparked a fire that spread quickly.
The Sweetwater Church of God stepped out on faith
and began planning for a city-wide concert. They
rented the Municipal Auditorium before they had
funds available. They hit the streets and have been
drumming up sponsors ever since, and the response
from local businesses have been overwhelming.
"1 have been asking God to use me, and now I
feel like he has. I never dreamed we would get this
response," Mike Kincaid said.
"We have even had offers to supply the Auditorium,
meals, advertising and even to run the lights and
soundboard."
"This just shows what can happen when you get
out of God's way and let him have control," Pain
Zumwalt said. "We seem to want to put him in a box
and limit him. He has so much more for us than we
can ever imagine, if we'll just give him the reins."
"What started as a small church dream has turned
into a reality and we are so thankful. We have even
been able to get local talent, Cole Rhoades to open
the event."
Cole is a senior in Sweetwater High School and
leads the youth praise and worship at his church.
While the church still has a way to go, they are well
on their way to paying for this event.
