One man s dream has led today's reality
Cornerstone, a five-member all vocal Christian group based in Abilene, was one of the many talents that per-
formed at the fourth annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. program on Monday. They began in 2003 as a group
of friends who loved to sing, each having grown up signing acapella music. Cornerstone's mission is to spread
the message of Christ through song — a mission that is deeply felt within the hearts of each of the members.
Cornerstone is made up of Don Connel, Olivia Hodges, George Pendergrass, Tim Pipes and Bicky Tolar.

Quilt diplayed at
Florida Museum
The work of Gay Young Ousley, a native of Nolan
County and currently of Abilene, Texas, will hang in the
Florida Museum of Natural History as part of Quilting
Florida Natural II. Ousley's quilt, Loggerhead, was devel-
oped to depict an aspect of Florida's environment. The
exhibit will be open to the public from Feb. 6 through
April 25, 2010.
Quilting Natural Florida II is presented by the Alachua
County Day Guild in celebration of the natural history
of the area. The Florida Museum of Natural History is
located in Gainesville, Florida.
Gay Young Ousley has loved fabric since teaching
herself to sew at age nine. Know n primarily for her land-
scapes, she combines painting principles and collage'
techniques with quilting. Her style developed through
years of trial and error and study with teachers such as
Jane Dunnewold, Anne Johnston and Katie Pasquini
Masopust. Many of her works reflect Gay's love of
nature and the panoramic views of West Texas and the
Southwest. She enjoys designing and constructing pieces
which portray specific sites or themes.
Gay taught quilting and landscape techniques in both
Texas and New Mexico. Her work has been exhib-
ited at the Museum of Western Art in Wickenburg,
Arizona; Fiber Arts Fiesta, Albuquerque, New Mexico;
Dallas Quilt Show, Dallas, Texas; Hill Country Arts
Foundation, Ingram, Texas; Kerr Art and Culture Center,
Kerrville, Texas; Kendall Gallery, San Angela, Texas;
Textures Gallery, Scottsdale, Arizona; Denver National
Quilt Show, Denver, Colorado; The Art Center, Grand
Junction, Colorado; Mesa Verde, Colorado; Ricky Tims
Gallery, La Veta, Colorado; Fresh Light Gallery, Denison,
Texas; Texas State Capitol and Bob Bullock Library,
Austin Texas; and the Houston Center for Contemporary
Craft, Houston, Texas.

Dr. Martin Luther King,
Jr. strived to end racial
segregation and discrimi-
nation for years, until his
death in 1968.

tion issues to participate
in a Local Work Group
meeting to be held at the
Maryneal Community
Center in Maryneal, Texas.
This meeting will be at 10
a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21,
