Monday, Jan. 17
City Offices Closed
The City of Sweetwater business offices
will be closed on Monday, Jan. 17, for the
Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. There
will be no residential trash pick up on
Monday, Jan. 17, however, all services
will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 18. The
commercial route will run as scheduled
all week. The public is asked to be patient
for the small delay, as the trucks and staff
will be running one day behind, but will
catch up during the week. The citizen's
drop off center and Type IV landfill will
be closed on Monday, Jan. 17, and reopen
at regularly schedi gd hours in Tuesday,
Jan. 18.
Sweetwater Little League
Sweetwater Little League Registration
will take place from 6-8 p.m. on Monday,
Jan. 17, Tuesday, Jan. 18 and Wednesday,
Jan. 19, at the Sweetwater Lion's Club for
children ages 4-16 as of April 30, 2011.
Parents are asked to bring the child's
birth certificate, three copies of proof
of residency (insurance card, driver's
license, voter's registration card or util-
ity bill) health insurance information,
t-shirt size and registration fee. For more

Wednesday, Jan. 19
Adult Literacy/ESL
The Adult Literacy/ESL class will meet
at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 19, at the
County-City Library. Instructors will help
you learn to read, improve your reading
skills, improve your English skills or help
you read to your children. Call 235-4978

Round-Up Meeting
A meeting will be held at 4 p.m. on
Wednesday, Jan. 19, at the Nolan County
Coliseum for planning and discussion on
the Rattlesnake Round-Up. Those orga-
nizations and interested parties inter-
ested in planning and discussion of this
year's Round-Up are invited to attend.
Discussions will include setup and traffic,
among other things. Thoughts and sug-
gestions to make the Round-Up a better
and safer event are welcome.
Flu Vaccine Reduced
The Sweetwater-Nolan County Health
Department has reduced the cost of the
flu vaccine to $15. Immunization clinics
are held every Wednesday from 8:30-
11:30 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m. and on the
second Wednesday of the month until 6
p.m.
Blowout Meeting
A meeting for Sweetwater High
School graduation Blowout will be held
Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the
East Ridge Elementary cafeteria. All SHS
parents are invited to attend. For more

Thursday, Jan. 20
Story Hour
Story Hour at the County-City Library
for parents and their children will be
held at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 20.
Library staff will lead the parents and

Dr. Maria Toro, specializing in family
practice and obstetrics at Rolling Plains
Rural Health Clinic, will have her last
day at the clinic on Thursday, Jan. 20.

AEIS Public Hearing
There will be a Public Hearing regard-
ing the Academic Excellence Indicator
System (AEIS) on Jan. 20, 2010, at 5:30
p.m. The hearing will be held in conjunc-
tion with the SISD Board of Trustees
meeting.
Rhema Valley Church
Faye Hardin, founder and director of
Insight USA will bring a current event
presentation at Rhema Valley Church
on Thursday, Jan. 20. InsightUSA is a
nation-wide prayer ministry based in
Orlando, Fla. Psalmist David House of
Lubbock will also be ministering in wor-
ship. The public is invited to attend.
There will be a covered dish meal at 6
p.m. Service time is at 7 p.m. For more

Pine Seedlings
The Nolan County Soil and Water
Conservation District is offering Afghan
pine seedlings for $3 each. Orders will be
taken through Friday, Jan. 21. The trees
will be delivered on Thursday, Feb. 3. For

Relay For Life Summit
The West Texas Regional Summit for
Relay For Life will be held from 5-9 p.m.
on Friday, Jan. 21, and from 8 a.m. to 4
p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, at Crossroads
Fellowship Church, located at 6901 TX
191 in Odessa. All committee members
and two team representatives from each
team are invited to attend. The registra-
tion fee is $25. On Friday, participants
are invited to sport their favorite team
jersey or colors and Saturday will be
Relay Casual. Registration will continue

Sweetwater Arena Youth Football
Sweetwater Arena Youth Football
Signups will take place at 6 p.m. on
Tuesday, Jan. 25, at the Sweetwater
Jaycees Annex. Fourth and fifth grade
boys who played football in fall are invit-
ed to play arena football in Abilene at the
Taylor County Expo Center. All players
will receive free passes to Ruff Rider
games. The team is limited to the first
21 players registered. The season is from
March 12 to April 30. For more informa-

Saturday, Feb. 12
Valentines Dance
A Valentine's dance and dinner, spon-
sored by the American Legion Riders, will
take place on Saturday, Feb. 12, at Roscoe
American Legion Post 227. The meal will
be served at 7 p.m., prepared by Royce
Walker. Music will be provided by J&R
DJ Music. There will be door prizes and
a 50/50 drawing. Admission is $10 each
or $15 per couple. All proceed will benefit
the American Legion Roof Fund.

DivorceCare
A new session of DivorceCare began at
Trinity Baptist Church, 1506 Santa Fe, on
Wednesday, Jan. 12. Classes are held each
Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the
church and are facilitated by Bill Arey.
DivorceCare is a seminar and support group
for couples in crisis or those seeking on-
going support and encouragement following
a divorce. The course is designed for entry at
any level of the 13-week class. This group is
led by people who understand what you are
going through and want to help. You will gain
access to valuable DivorceCare resources
to help you deal with the pain of the past
and look forward to rebuilding your life.
Workbooks for the course are $15. You may
call the church office at 235-2991 for more
information or to register for the current
class. Names and circumstances of persons
attending are strictly confidential.
January Art Exhibit
The January art exhibit at the County-City
Library is the portrait pencil drawings of Jim
Price. The hours for the library are Monday
from 1-6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday from
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m.
to 1 p.m.
