No action on new lake leases

Staff Writer
The standing room only crowd at the recent
April 5 hearing regarding the new lake lease
paled in comparison to the 20 who attend-
ing the City Commission meeting on Tuesday
morning, April 12 at City Hall.
On the agenda, the commissioners were
to consider and take action regarding the
expired lake lot leases at Lake Sweetwater and
Oak Creek Lake. After the 45-minute closed
Executive Session meeting ended and the
commissioners came back into regular ses-
sion, citizens were informed of the decision
that there would be "no action at this time."
Before entering the closed meeting, how-
ever, residents were offered the opportunity
to speak by the commissioners, in which no
comments were made.

Over 430 people attended the annual Taste of Sweetwater on Monday, April 11, at the Nolan County Coliseum
Annex, benefitting the Senior Nutrition Activities Program (SNAP). Many local restaurants featured their spe-
cialties for the public to enjoy. Many door prizes were also given during the event. Over $3,000 was raised at
the event.

3D archery
shoot set
The Sweetwater Bow
Hunter's Association
will be sponsoring a 3D
Archery Shoot on Saturday
and Sunday, April 16-17,
2011 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
on the north side of Lake
Trammell,
A $10 shooting fee will
cover both days, and mili-
tary and youth shoot for
free. Youth under 16 years
of age, however,, must
be accompanied with an
adult. In addition, any vol-
unteers who help with set-
ting up targets on Friday
afternoon will shoot free.
30 targets will be avail-
able on le hunting rang-
es, and there will be a
silent auction on used 3D
targets. Some basic equip-
ment will be providec or
beginner or intermediate
participants if needed.
The rules for the Archery
Shoot are as follows:
1. One shot per person
per target (if traffic is
high).
2. Yield to faster groups
3. Alcohol is not allowed
on the shoot.
4. No vulgar language
allowed, please, no matter
how bad the shot was.
5. No movement or relo-
cation of targets/obsta-
cles.
6. Shot distance is not
a concern as long as it is
down the marked path and
safe (move closer down to
the path if necessary).
7. Compounds and
Traditionals only — no
Crossbows.
8. No broadheads —
field tips only.
With Lake Trammel
being nearby, fishing poles
are welcome and a boat
ramp will be available (no
wake lake). Participants
are asked to prepare
themselves with any kind
of snake prevention tools

Sims honored at NFU Convention
National Farmers
Union (NFU) adjourned
its 109th annual con-
vention in San Antonio,
Texas. More than 500
Farmers Union members
from across the country
gathered to celebrate the
past year's achievements,
look ahead to future chal-
lenges, and vote on the
farm organization's prior-
ities for the coming year.
The convention, themed,
"Spur to Action," is where
NFU members are able
define the focus of the
organization's work.
NFU President Roger
Johnson took the stage
during the opening ban-
quet, delivering the State
of the Farmers Union
address. NFU has been
representing farmers,
ranchers, fis ermen and
rural Americans for more
than 100 years, reaching
out to all agriculturalists
