The 54th Annual Sweetwater Jaycees World's Largest Rattlesnake Round-Up was held March 9-11, at the Nolan
County Coliseum where thousands of people from all over the United States and beyond visited the small town of
Sweetwater to see what the Western Diamondback Rattlesnake is all about. Shown above is Sweetwater Jaycee

Green pleads gu Ity
A trial was set on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, for
Michael Dwayne Green, when he entered a plea of guilty
instead.
Green was charged with continuous violence against
the family, a third degree felony. For his plea, Green
received 10 years confinement in the Texas Department
of Criminal Justice, probated for 10 years. He will also
have to pay a $500 fine. $309 in court costs and $500
in attorney's fees. He will also have to serve 160 hours
of community service and must attend and successfully
complete the Male Batterers Intervention Program. He
also had to serve 90 days of up-front jail time in the
Nolan County Jail.
Green was charged twice for two dates of offense
being Oct. 18, 2011 and Jan. 8, 2011. He received the
same sentence for both offenses, with his sentence to
run concurrently.

Big Country Biggest Loser Winner is coming to the
Big Country for those who want to boost their New
Year's Resolutions and are getting ready for summer
and swimsuit season locally, as well as compete for a
cash prize.
The contest, sponsored by the Big Country Medical
Reserve Corps, The Sweetwater-Nolan County Health
Department, Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital, Rolling
Plains Rural Health Clinic, Texas State Technical College
and the Sweetwater Reporter will be from March 19 to
May 14 with registration dates from March 5-15.
Teams can be comprised of four or more participants

Ten dogs available
for adoption
Sweetwater Animal Control currently has 10 dogs
available for adoption.
Available for adoption is a female collie mix, female
Labrador mix, male Husky, male Labrador/pit bull mix,
male pug and a female boxer and her four puppies.
Accordi ng to Sweetwater's animal control officer, Don
Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum
of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to
10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee
and t he cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
The pets are required to have their vaccination before
they leave to their new homes.
The pet shown will be available for adoption until next
week. For those interested in adopting a pet, call the
Sweetwater Animal Shelter at 236-6139. If there is no
answer, just leave a message and they will get back to
you the same day or the next day.
