Silent Men.—Washington ncvor j stealiug at the last term of the Dis-
'made a speech. In the zenith of ! trict Court.

merchants and all others interested, as
an expression of ours:
What tells so readily the standard of
a town as the appearance of its new si
paper, and its youth or age can a
veil be defiued as if observation had
been made. The enterprise of iu
citizens is depicted by its advertise
ments—the liberality by the look-
of the paper. Some papers show i
a good, healthy, tolid ii,ui dation, pi.
thoric purse, and well to do appear-
ance generally j others show a striv
ing to contend with grasping thousands
trying to wrench out an existence
from the clo?e fisted conn unity
around them. An occasional meteoric
display in its column's of local or
of editorial, shows what it wouid
do if it had the means, but cannot
continue in the expensive work until
the support comes which ought to be
readily granted. A newspaper i.o
like a church j it wants fostering and
then as a general thing it can and
will reflect credit upon its location.
Take your home paper; it gives you
more news of immediate interest than
the New Yoik or other distant city
papers; it talks for you when no
others will speak in ycur tavor : when
other localities belie you , it stands
up for our rights, you always have a
champion in ycur home papers j and
those who stand np for you should
certainly be sustained. Your in*
terestt are kindrei and equal.
Therefore, it is your iuteaest and
duty to support your homo paper.—

Tragedy In Hill County.—We
are again called upon to chronicle a
tragedy. A week agolsst Wednesday,
Charlie Green and James King who
were brothers in law, had a difficulty
at the house of the former, about ten
miles northwest of Hillsboro, which
resulted in the killing, on the nigh?
next succeeding, of the latter, Mr
King.
Oreeo went to the honse of King
and demanded the payment ot a deb.
of thirty cents. Ihe latter denieu
the justness of the debt, it seems, and
retused to pay it, when the former
entered King's house, and took there-
from a pair of spurs, a box of paper
collars and a pair of gloves in remu-
neration for the debt. An angry
dispute now arose, and probably a
violent scuffle ensued, but the result
was not serious. The next night King
was at the house of Mr. Abe Wilson,
and Green sought him for the purpose
of killing him. Finding the party
for whom he seatched, he immediately
proceeded to shoot him. Green is at
iarge.—[Wa'xahatchie Argus.
C. K. Hall.—The Washington
Republican announces that C. K.
Hall, late Collector of Customs of the
port Galvestou, will be a candidate
for Governor in opposition to Jack
Hamilton.
ToPeevent Rust in Plows—A

the following, which he has tried sue'
cesstully *
None but plowmen know the advan-
tage of having a bright ^low. The
writer has tried a great many plans
to keep agricultural implements from
rusting. There is nothing so good
and handy as patent axle grense. I
have used tallow, paint and Japan
varnish, but the axle grease is always
convenient and easily applied.
