All, with whom we hare con-
versed, who were ia attendauce
upon the Democratic Conven-
tion, agr ;e that more than three-
fourths of that body were oppos-
ed to the New Constitution in
its present shape. Nearly the
entire press of Texas denounced
the. Constitutional Convention,
and the new law, as measure by
measure was voted oh when that
Convention was in session.
Nearly the entire press of the
State, which advises the accept-
ance of the Constitution, agree
that it is defective, not such a
Constitution as the people had
expected, but so halt, lame, and
blind, that it must go into the
hospital of amendment before it
can be made perfect enough to
answer the purposes of the
State, Already some of the
newspapers aire suggesting that
p«pple begin to. consider
what sort of treatment this.new
law shall receive at the hands
of the next Legislature, if,'per-
chance, it is received by the,
people in its present dieased and
crippled condition. It is not a
bad suggestion; though if the
new organic law is tsiken in
hand by the next Legislature
for treatment, a patch here and.
a bandage there will not be the
sort of treatment we would ad-
vise, The head of the patient,
for the most part, is all right,
for, in the Bill of Rights, the
true Democratic doctrine is as-
serted; but the body is so terri-
bly out of ord*r, and there is
such a complication of diseases,
th t heroic treatment will be
necessary if a cure is meditated.
The head; of the organic law,
under^which we are now acting,
and have our 8tate organization,
is radically wrong, and its body

condition as we could wish, but.

ministration have forced die'

the very object of calling: a Con-

istence, and feel that our load
had been removed and our pro-

tive. In many particulars it is
deformed. It has strabismus
and looks crooked; club foot
and will walk baclly; is affected
with ' wens* and excrescences,
all of which, however,. in the
-Providence of God, may be rem-
edied and removed by the scal-

As it was impossible for Dr.
Cutler, proprietor of the Dallas
Commercial to entertain all of
the subscribers to his excellent
paper at the bauqtiet given by
him recently, he has done the
next best thing possible by ad
ding four columns to the Com-

paper. Glad to uote the pros-
perity which is well earned.
We have not made any noise
or fuss over it,' bat it is a fact,
that hardly a day lms passed
for the last two months but we
see on onr streets emigrant wag-

time. Thtse people are mostly
frota the older States, seeking
