The New Era tells as the Lo-
cal Option election passed offed
very quietly and peaceably at
Qroesbeck. Both parties
worked for the Victory, bnt did
not gain it. The Antl-Looals
put ia 188 voteh while the Locals
were getting in 48. The wsath-
er. was" extremely bad, and no
doubt operated against the Lo-
cal Option cause.
The Tribune Is glad to chronicle

Capt. Shoemaker informs us that
the members of the Methodist
church; and others, contemplate
erecting a frame buildlngj388s48
feet, 19 feet from ground to
eaves, and. finished up properly,
the whole to cost about 19,000;
$1,400 of which has already
been raised. Capt. Shoemaker's
known energy is a sufficient
gaurantec for the success of the
enterprise. ;; -■

A Northern man a few days

Yon ought to have cotton fceto-

have at the aorth, and theuyou
would be a thriving prosperous

that yon ought to direct your
energies and •e'flbrts in that di-
rection Is apparent in the fact
that your ate poor and power-
less without them, while the
North is rich and strong With
them. It is a lamentable fact
that all the Northern man said
was true, at least In a great
measure. We need manufacto-
ries of all kinds, and no place
in the State is better located for
them than Houston. We liave
all the facilities here and all the
advantuges ot easy access to
market In oar own State and a-
broad. Can't Houston daring
this year rebuild her eotton
mills, put up another flouring
mill, start a tannery, and estab-
lish a cotton seed oil mill and a
wooden ware establishment?
All of them would pay the pro-
prietors and help the city.
