Editor A'ews Boy : Sir : I send
you a condensed sketch of tbe pro<
ceedings enacted ia Convention
tion held at Hardin, July 1st 1872.
The nominations for ballot were
as follows:
Armstrong of Jefferson, Jackeon
of 'Chambers,. Rock, Whitehead
end Charlton of Tyler, Watts of
Polk, Ford of Newton, Doom of
Jasper, Darx of Hardin and O'Bri
en of Jefferson.
We then proceeded to ballot,
which resulted in the nomination
of Armstrong, Ford and Watts.
The ratio of representation was
fixed by tbe number of Democratic
voters in each connty. Each coun-
ty was allowed one delegate for
ever; hundred Democratic votes,
and on that basis we proceeded to
ballot. Tjfler was allowed seven
votes, Liberty sight, Hardin three,
icej^faaper six, Newton five, Chambers
p^Pmir, San Jacinto four, Jefferson
six, Orange four, Polk seven;
whole nuirber 51. Thirty six nee-
ossary to elect. Ford was elected
by acclamation-

was completely occupied.

acts of injustice for which they
