Rosie in talks to revive magazine
Rosie O'Donnell plans to take another stab at
publishing a magazine. While in New York last
week promoting her upcoming HBO documen-
tary, "All Aboard: Rosie's Family Cruise,"
O'Donnell revealed that
she's in talks with "a very
well-known publisher" to
revive an updated version
of Rosie magazine, which
folded in September 2002.
O'Donnell said she
wants another shot
because losing control of
the magazine was "by far
O'Donnell
the most hideous part of her career."
Last week, O'Donnell also announced plans
to launch a sketch comedy show on Logo TV.
But plans for more children have been canned.
Her partner, former Dallasite Kelli O'Donnell,
says five kids is enough.
"I have been told that if I bring anything home
that eats or poops I will be single," Rosie said.
JT LeRoy — he was played by a she
The story behind novelist JT LeRoy's identi-
ty is stranger than fiction. New York magazine
writer Stephen Beachy's expose in a piece pub-
lished last October was apparently right on the
money. That LeRoy's career was an elaborate ruse
created by San Francisco resident Laura Albert
and her husband, Geoffrey Knoop, and that Albert
had penned the books thought to be written by a
former child sex worker living with FHV.
Immediately after the New York expose ran,
LeRoy's blog, jtleroy.blogspot.com, ran count-
less testimonies, many written by celebrities,
confirming his existence.
On Jan. 7, The New York Times ran a follow-
up about LeRoy's identity, which focused on the
author's public role — a figure who appeared at
author events shielded by wigs and sunglasses
and often photographed in the company of
celebrities: Winona Ryder, Shirley Manson and
Pink, to name a few.
But the young man in the wig, it turns out,
STARRY-EYED SURPRISE: Winona Ryder, left, and "JT LeRoy."
wasn't a man at all: It was Savannah Knoop,
Geoffrey Knoop's half sister, who is in her mid-
20s.
A photograph of Savannah at a 2003 opening
for a clothing store in San Francisco was discov-
ered online. Five of LeRoy's intimates — includ-
ing his literary agent and business manager —
were shown the photograph and identified
Savannah Knoop as the person they have known
as JT LeRoy.
