Each Ranger was required to have a horse that would stand the required inspection of a Texas Ranger horse. In other words, you had to have a real good Horse – Winchester 45 Colt revolver, bridle, saddle and bedding. So I proceeded to rig myself up and on the first day of January 1883, I joined up with the Texas Rangers. A Ranger Company then consisted of a Captain, a Lieutenant, a Sergeant, and a Corporal to every five men.
