and are to remain on nurse cows

calves have been fed and shown,
but competetion with Milk-fed
calves has caused the local boys

for next Spring shows. These cal-
ves will remain on nurse-cows un-
til show time and in addition will
be self-fed all the grain, hay and
protein feed that they will corpr

Two Future Farmer members
of the Hank Smith Chapter of
Crosbyton will apply for the Loii!.-
Star Farmer Degree, the highest
possible FFA rank that can be
given by the Texas FFA associa-
tion. The boys making application
are Thilman Johnson . and Ray
Haltom, both president and vice-^
president respectively , of the lo-
cal Chapter. These boys will sub-
mit applications to the State-
Committee who will pass upon the
qualifications of each boy sand if
passed the honor will be bestowed
to them at the* State FFA Con-
vention at Houstop in July. There
are many requirements of the de-
gree, th£ principal one being an
extra high standard of accom-
plishments in ' Future Fafmer
work. The requirements are so rig-
id that to date Crosbyton has had
only 1 boy to obtain this goal in
the 7 years of FFA work tn Cros-
byton schools, that member be-
ing Harold Hodges who received
his degree at Temple last,. sum-
mer at the annual state conven-
tion. The boys making applica-
tions this year have an outstand-
ing record and have worked 3
hard years attempting to reach
this goal. "

The district Texas Home De-
monstration association held its
annual meeting at the First Bap-
tist Church. Lubbock, Saturday,
April 13. All sixteen counties of
the district had delegates and rep-
resentatives pj4sent. Floyd County
the home of Mrs. C. A. Coffey
Doughtery district president had
75 present: Lubbock County,* host-
ess for the meeting, had 51 an.'.
Crosby county had 28.
As Mrs. H. T. Snider, Council
Chairman, Big Four, and Mrs. J.
A Jehning were unable to attend
the meeting, the voting delegates
from Crosby County were, Mrs. S.
G. Appling, Vice-Council fchair-
njans, Mt. Blanco, Mrs. W. O.
Matthews, Big Four, and Mrs.
Clifton Winkle Canyon Valley,
Mrs. Winkle gave the response to
the welcome. Mrs. Matthews gave
a summary "of the work in CrOsby
county, when the roll was called.
Although Home Demonstration
Work in the county is only in its
infancy, we were proud of the re
port that Mrs. Matthews was able
to give. We had eighteen
men's Clubs with 352 enrolled an
eight girls 4-H Clubs with an
rollment of 114.
At the noon hour, approximately
250 of the 336 attending the meet-
ing, attended the lunchioii "!at the
Lubbock ballroom. Miss Ona Jacks
State Girls 4-H Club Agent, gave
an interesting summary of' girls
work in the state. Dean Marguet
W. Weeks summarized values de-
rived from the educational fund,
while a senior at the College, who
received a scholarship through 4*
H Club work as a Club Girl.
The afternoon meeting was in-
deed an inspirational one., It fraa
followed by the group attending
open House at the College.
