In the Spring of 1972, the band presented 39 concerts of stage band music in high schools
and colleges throughout the North Texas area. These programs were well received by the
students. A small dance combo from the band provided music for numerous military balls and
local rodeos. They also performed 10 concerts at the State Fair of Texas and one at the National
Convention of Girl Scouts.
The fall of 1972 brought the Band to their highest point. They provided military music
and entertainment to such dignitaries as Vice-President Spiro Agnew, Secretary of Defense
Melvin Laird, Army Chief of Staff General William C. Westmoreland, and Lord Louis
Mountbatten during his visit here in Mineral Wells. They finished off the year with 10 Christmas
music serenades at various offices around the post.
The Director of the 328th U.S. Army Band was Chief Warrant Officer Herbert J. Bilhartz.
