U. S. Army Primary Helicopter School
Training Support Department
Operations Branch:
The Operations Center is the hub of the U.S. Army Primary
Helicopter School Training program. All training resourses
are allocated from the Center and student training is monitored
on a daily basis to insure that student flight training
requirements are met.
Scheduling Branch:
The Aircraft Assignment System is based upon th following concept.
1. A parking place for each helicopter.
2. Maintenance personnel notify Training Support Department of
location of flyable aircraft.
3. Training Support Departmeht makes block allocations to training
Flights.
4. Flight personnel return aircraft to designated locations upon
termination of the training period.
Each heliport has flyable and non-flyable area which are known to all
flight and maintenance personnel. Maintenance provides TSD daily with a diagram
of spot numbers containing flyable aircraft. Each Section Operations Officer in
TSD makes a block allocation of aircraft to fly without regard to tail numbers.
Each flight then obtains tail numbers of aircraft located within its allocated block
and makes individual assignments to students. Instructors and students return
flyable aircraft to flyable area and non-flyable aircraft to maintenance areas and the
assignment process is repeated for the afternoon training period. Flight scheduled
for night flying are allocated a block of aircraft on a weekly basis. Certain flights
training during the afternoons are designated to fill night flying blocks with night
flyable aircraft. Upon termination of night training, all aircraft are returned to the
night flying area and post flight inspections are begun.
An Aircraft Replacement Board for each heliport provides the Operations
Center, TSD, with a method of providing students with aircraft to replace those
that become non-flyable because of maintenance difficulties. Operations Specialist
manning the board assign replacement aircraft to students and report aircraft
requiring maintenance to Maintenance Control assuring rapid corrective action and
return to a flyable status.
The Contractors' Maintenance Director visits the School's Operation Center once in the
morning and once in the afternoon on flyable days to monitor aircraft requirements.
