The Elgin City Council
recently approved new water
rates for the city, effective on
April 1.
There is a minimum base
rate coupled with a consump-
tion-per-gallon rate.
The base charges for the
first 2,000 gallons for both
residential and commercial
customers — according to
meter size — are: $25 (3/4
inch meter); $45 (one-inch);
$79.25 (1.5-inch); $120 (2-
inch); $215 (3-inch); $350
(4-inch).
An escalating rate for
water usage for each 1,000
gallons above 2,000 gallons
will be charged: 2,001-4,000
gallons ($3.25); 4,001-8,000
gallons ($3.30); 8,001-12,000
gallons ($3.45); 12,001 gal-
lons or more ($3.60).
To initiate new water or
wastewater service with the
city will require a non-refund-
able application fee of $25.
All water users will also
be required to make a cash
deposit to the city prior to
obtaining service, also based
on meter size: $100 (for 3/4-
inch and 1-inch meter); $150
(1.5-inch); $200 (2-inch);
$300 (3-inch); $400 (4-inch);
$500 (over 4-inch).
Upon termination of ser-
vice, the user will be entitled
to a refund less any amount
that is due the city.
Any account with an out-
standing balance due of more
than $50, by the 25th of the
month (unless the 25th falls
