Land office No. 9 established, composing all that tract of country
theretofore embraced in the colony of De Witt; located at town of
Gonzales. T.A., Dec. 22, 1836, Gammel, Laws, I, 1278. (See map,

County organized for judicial purposes;, boundaries defined (see map,
p. 14, sjpra); Daniel B. Friar, Ralph Campbell, Joseph Lawrence, James T.
Wood, Ben M. Craig, and James N. Smith appointed commissioners to select
site for the seat of justice, authorized to:receive or purchase land for
it, and directed to hold election for a chief justice and all other
officers for county purposes; seat of justice named Cuero; time of holding
county court set for 2d Mondays in January, April, July, and October;
