Wildcats claim two District championships in Spearman
The Canadian track and field teams fin-
ished their regular season with two District
championships Monday in Spearman. The
varsity and JV Wildcats each claimed team
District championships and the Lady Cats
finished third.

Morgan Saul competes in the 11DM Hurdles.
The Wildcats varsity finished 1-2-3 in
the 300M Hurdles, earning 24 of the team's
180 points. Luis Garcia (first), Clint Cock-
rell (second) and Leonel R. Avila (third) will
advance to the Regional meet in Abilene on
April 25-16.
"I have been here 12 years and I can't re-
member a year that the JV and varsity have
won the District meet," said coach Craig
Campbell, "Normally, we pull a few guys to
Varsity that we think can score and that kills
our JV."
Alex Meraz (first), Caleb Berry (third)
and Randall Arbuckle each placed in the Shot
Put. Any vars ity athlete that places in the top
3 spots at District will compete in the Region-
al meet next weekend.
The Wildcats will compete in 13 events in
Abilene, ncluding the 1600M Relay. Leonel
R. Avila, Clint Cockrell, Luis Garcia and Paul
Lewis teamed to win the mile relay in 3:26.94,
nearly 6 seconds faster than second place.
Will Schafer won the 110M and 300M
Hurdles, finished second n Triple Jump and
fifth in the High Jump in the JV division.
"We are blessed with a bunch of guys that
love to compete," Campbell said. "So, when
we pulled those guys up to varsity, the other
guys stepped up and still won by almost 60
points."
The Wildcats' track teams, 7th-grade
through varsity, each won their District meet
this season. "Our goal was to leave this Dis-
trict with something to remember us by,"
Campbell said. "I think they achieved their
goal."
The Lady Cats finished third at the Dis-
trict meet, scoring 118. Spearman finished
with 140 and Stratford scored 135. Canadian
will compete in 10 events at the Regional
meet. Ashley Hale finished first in the 200M
Dash and Kassidy Senter, Sue Royse, Jessica
Pelham and Hale teamed to win the 400M
Relay.
The Wildcat and Lady Cat Regional quali-
fiers will compete in Panhandle tomorrow
(Friday). Field Events will begin at 4 p.m.
