NEWS BRIEFS
Sheriff's Office hosts public meetings tonight on CodeRED
Sheriff Gary Henderson is urging business owners and residents of Hemphill
County to attend back-to-back public meetings tonight (Thursday, June 5) to
learn more about the new emergency warning system. The CodeRED emergen-
cy notification system is a high-speed telephone communication service that can
deliver customized pre-recorded emergency messages directly to homes and
businesses at the rate of 3,000 calls per minute. It can be used to warn Hemp-
hill County residents of any event that threatens harm, including crime alerts,
environmental and man-made disaster warnings, search and rescue or evacua-
tion efforts, or weather-related emergencies. The first meeting, slated to begin
at 5:30 p.m., is tailored specifically for local business owners, and will not only
provide an overview of the system, but will give them an opportunity to register
for CodeRED. The second meeting, scheduled for 6:30 p.m., is intended to 1'amil-
arize all county residents with the warning system. To sign up for CodeRED
online, go to www.canadianrecord.com and click on the CodeRED link at the
bottom of the home page. Those who are unable to sign up online for CodeRED
can receive assistance at tonight's meeting, or may go to the Hemphill County
Sheriff's Office, the Hemphill County Library or The Canadian Record during
regular business hours for help with registration. If you have problems regis-
tering online for CodeRED, and are unable to attend next Thursday's meeting,
please contact the Hemphill County Sheriff's Office at (806)323-5234, or The
Canadian Record at (806)323-6461. #23
