An open mike celebration of
African-American literature will

Wesleyan Hosts Seminar
A seminar titled "Residence
Hall Search and Seizure at
Private Institutions of Higher
Learning" will be held in the
Science Lecture Theater on
Friday, Feb. 22, from 8:30 a.m.-
1:30 p.m. Guests will have an
opportunity to discuss the vari-
ous laws with administrators,

Financial aid director leaves Wesleyan

Karen Krause, director of
financial aid, has announced her
plans to leave
Wesleyan, effective
Feb. 28, in order to
assume the position
of director of schol-
arships and finan-
cial aid at the
University of Texas
at Arlington.
"I have been at
Texas Wesleyan for
over seven years
and have seen many positive
things happen at the university
during that time," Krause said.
"The opportunity to take on
another challenge in a different
type of setting presented itself
when the position came open.

Since I live in Arlington, it
seemed like something I should
consider."
In a memo to the Wesleyan
community, President Harold G.
Jeffcoat wrote, "I had
intended for [Krause) to
assume the role of inter-
im vice-president for
student services and to
provide leadership to all
areas of student life."
"With (her| departure, I
have decided to make
two assignments," he
wrote.
"First, Pati Alexander
will become associate vice-pres-
ident for student services.
[Second] Dean Carpenter will
be promoted to director of finan-
cial aid, replacing [Krause]."
Krause said, "The most dif-
ficult part of leaving is leaving
Four provost candidates
scheduled to visit campus

The provost committee
has announced scheduled
campus visits for four can-
didates under consideration
for the permanent provost
position.
According to a
memo sent out by
Dr. Joy Edwards,
chairwoman of the
search committee,
Dr. Allen
Henderson,
Wesleyan interim
provost since the
position was vacat-
ed almost a year
ago, is scheduled to meet
with faculty on Monday,
Feb. 25.
Henderson will meet at
I p.m. and again at 3:30
p.m. Both sessions will be
held in the board room of
the administration building.
Dr. Allan Hoffman will
be on campus Wednesday,
Feb. 27 and will have the
same scheduled meeting
times as Henderson.
Two additional candi-
dates will visit the campus
in early March.
Dr. Douglas Nancarrow
will be at the university on
March 7 and 8. He will meet
with faculty on Thursday,
Mar. 7 at 10:50 a.m. and
again at 3:30 p.m.
Dr. John Costello will
be here March 11 and 12
and will meet
with faculty on
Monday,
March 11 at
3:30 p.m. and
again on
Tuesday,
March 12 at
10:50 a.m.
The
search for a
university
provost began during in
August 2001 and was
reopened this semester
when there was no consen-
sis by the search committee
on either of the initial two
finalists.
The search comittee is
made up of 10 people repre-
senting administration, fac-
ulty, alumni and students.
According to Edwards,
the committee is hoping to
have made its final selection
by April 1, 2002.

behind a wonderful staff, faculty
and students who have been
very supportive of the office of
financial aid."
She said, "[Carpenter] has
been at the university
for a number of years
and is a graduate of
Wesleyan. She is more
than ready to take on
the role of director.
She will continue to
focus on customer
service issues while
ensuring compliance
with state and federal
regulations."
In addition to her duties as
financial aid director, Krause
has served as project manager
for the Wesleyan Information
Netwrok (WIN).
WIN is the comprehensive
computer program currently

being implemented in a multi-
phase format which will enable
the university to comply with
SACS requirements for updated
technology.
As associate
vice-president for
student services,
Alexander will
assume the WIN
responsibilities.
"The WIN
team leaders are very
strong and I have no
doubt that the project
will move ahead as
planned," said
Krause.
"I wish all here the very
best. I consider my time here to
be valuable and rewarding and
am very glad I made the deci-
sion to come here over seven
years ago," she said.
