Center Opens
A new air conditioned com
munity center for use by groups
families and individuals is
located at the entrance to Mon
tague Village at West Ft. Hood.
The center is an ideal place
for parties coffees bridge or
community projects. The build
ing may be reserved daytime
or night by various groups
giving them a quiet private at
mosphere.
The center is equipped with
a pool and ping pong table
juke box shuffle board slot
car racing track and television.
Teen dances are frequently
scheduled and bus transporta
tion is provided for the Saturday
night dances at the Ft. Hood
teen club on main post. A
live band is scheduled for Feb.
20 for teen-age dependents at
the community center.
The center is open to
dependents of military personnel
and various groups for special
occasions Monday through Fri
day from 6 to 9 p.m. and on
weekends from 1 to 7 p.m.

After officially opening its
doors four weeks ago the 2nd
Bde. 2nd Armd. Div. reenlist
ment annex office has already
made a significant contribution
to the brigade's reenlistment
program.

Co. B 2nd Bn. 12th Inf. 25th
Inf. Div. was seriously wounded
when his unit came under
attack.
Despite his wounds Schlau
directed gunship and artillery
fire on the advancing enemy
repelling their initial thrust.
Spotting three wounded men
in the open Schlau managed
to run across a dangerously ex
posed area and was able to
evacuate them.
In addition to the nation's
third highest award Schlau
received the Purple Heart for
wounds received in that action.
A Bronze Star with device
was presented to Capt. Carl
Riley also of Hq. Hq. Co.
for action in Vietnam.
While serving with Co. A 1st
Bn. 14th Inf. 4th Inf. Div.
Riley's reconnaissance platoon
came under heavy enemy fire.
In an effort to protect his
platoon Riley moved closer to
the enemy in the process
destroying an enemy emplace
ment. Repulsing the attack
Riley then evacuated several
wounded members of his pla
toon.
Although wounded himself
Riley managed to turn what
might have been a defeat into
a substantial victory.
In addition to the valor
awards a Bronze Star Medal
an Air Medal an Army Com
mendation Medal and a
Certificate of Achievement were
presented.
