THE ARMORED SENTINEL FORT HOOD TEXAS
Weight lifting ... it takes a lot of muscle.
And muscle is just what two members of the
Athletes in Action weight lifting team have.
Dave Hannah director of athletic ministry for
Campus Crusade for Christ and Russ Knipp team
member will be on post March 8 and 9 to demon
strate their talents in weight lifting. The Mini-Dome
will be the site for a 7:30 p.m. demonstration March
8 and Fiddler's Green Service Club March 9 at
7:30 p.m.
Only into its third year of existence the weight
lifting team has performed before considerably more
than 300000 students and others. Weight training
is popular in the United States for building athletes
in many different sports however as a competitive
sport little is known of it.
Possibly says Hannah "more people have seen
the Athletes in Action teams lift than have ever
seen the sport of competitive weight lifting in the
United St&tGs
But weight lifting is only part of their program.
"We tell people of the revelevance of Jesus Christ
to our lives and how He can give joy and meaning
to their lives as well" Hannah relates.
Recently the team of weight lifters performed
at the Pentagon in which 1500 persons turned out.
"It was thrilling to find out they (the Penta
gon) have never had a large turnout as we did for
a program in the mall of the Pentagon. One of the
programs at the military bases was cancelled but God
used this to allow us to put on a clinic for the Penta
gon's athletic club which consists of only lieutenant
colonels and above" reported Knipp.
The performance here on post is only one of
several groups which will be here. The groups are
here to tell of their experiences with Jesus—and to
tell others of the six-day training conference in
Dallas 12-17.
That training conference is EXPLO '72 and
approximately 100000 delegates are anticipated to
attend.
For further information concerning the weight
lifters or EXPLO '72 contact your unit chaplain or
Spec. 4 Dave Gerry at 685-8348 or 634-4510 or 2nd
Lt. Eddie Cole at 685-5331 or 685-3180.
