Derby to be held on March 25 in Gates
The Leon Valley District of
the Boy Scouts of America is
holding the Pinewood Derby on
Saturday Mar. 25. The event
will be held to race miniature
cars built by cub scouts of the
Leon Valley District. The race
will be held at the old high
school gym in Gatesville Tex.
Trophies will be awarded for
the first second and third
fastest cars and for the first
second and third most beautiful
cars. There will also be a first
second and third place trophy
for the fastest "Dad's" cars.

been declared off-limits and out-
of-bounds to all members of the
Armed Fprces. These places are
declared off-limits for the good
of the military by the Armed
or is in a
Board at Ft. Hood.
They are placed off-limits for
a number of reasons: poor

plaints unfair or discriminatory
practices unsanitary conditions
or safety hazards.

Cub Scout Pinewood
Derby At Gatesville
allowed to enter three cars in
each of the boy's events and
one in the dad's events. There
will be an admission fee of 25
cents for adults but no ad
mission will be charged for cub
scouts.
This is a father and son pro
ject with the cub scouts doing
the work and father advising.
If the father wants to do his
own car he may enter it in
the dad's event.
The fastest cars in the speed
event will be determined by the
four race elimination methods.
If a car has a malfunction and

side where the 2nd Armd. Div.
Show Band provided music. The
men toured the center and then
moved outside for refreshments.
The facility has a rehearsal
room musical instruments and
equipment worth approximately
$15000. These may be checked
out for practice and jam
sessions for large and small
groups.
The center is located in Bldg.
303 on Bn. Avenue. It is easily
accessible to Div. Arty person

Larry Crowell NCOIC of the
division unit-of-choice program
attended the meeting which
resulted in the allocation of
$90000 for use in unit of choice
recruiting to Ft. Hood.
The funds are distributed by
III Corps to individual divisions
which further allocate them to
individual brigades.

Bell said the helicopter landed
on the Holiday Inn roof which
added a bit of publicity to the
conference.
The program still has more
expansion room. Bell is hoping
for a total of 15 to 18 men
for full development of the area.
He hopes for the strength in
crease by March.
"Everybody can get involved
in the unit-of-choice program"
Bell said. "If a soldier enlists
a buddy to join Hell On Wheels
he can earn five days ad
ministrative leave."
