Advanced Placement English Offered to

DRAMA, JOURNALISM, SPEECH, and three years of English
make up the course of study in the English Department.
Seventeen teachers, under the direction of Miss Doris Crisp,
teach students the fundamentals of grammar, variety of ex-
pression, and critical readings of novels, plays, and short
stories.
Classes are provided on three levels, basic, regular, and ad-
vanced. TJ is the only school in this area that offers Advanced
Placement English. Exceptionally talented senior students are
placed in this class and, at the end of the year, take a test over
all that they have learned. Those scoring high enough receive
hours on their college English.
Students in Journalism classes have an opportunity to partici-
pate in publication of a school newspaper and a school annu-
al and learn how to write in an interesting and meaningful
way.
Speech and Drama students are taught various techniques of
better communication by frequently presenting oral speeches
and appearing in plays.
