World Peace Can Be Achieved Through
Today's world-wide American Field Service program for
students of high school age was started back in the days
of World War I. American ambulance drivers began to
help young people with the hope that World peace
could be achieved through better understanding. The
movement has grown into a permanent organization and
TJHS has participated in the program for the past seven
years.
Francesco Minozzi from Cremona, Italy is the sixth for-
eign exchange student to spend a school year with us.
Former AFS guests have taught TJ students about Swe- 1w-.
den, Belgium, Brazil, Argentina, and South Africa.
Prominent in AFS affairs are Mrs. Jewel McEwan and
Miss Eleanor Wall, faculty sponsors. The student AFS is
backed by an adult group that helps raise the necessary t
funds.
This year AFS has had an especially active club. They .
have had a number of parties, a cookie sale, and a bond
drive. One of the special events was when seven foreign
exchange students visited our area for a weekend.
It is their goal that the chapter will grow so that interna-
tional understanding will become widespread through-
out the world.
