Jackets Pass Over Pasadena
(Pasadena, Sept. 26) The Yellow Jackets combined a rigid defense
and an explosive pass offense to whip the Pasadena Eagles 21-0
in Pasadena. During the first quarter, it looked as though the
game would be defensively dominated, then things started pop-
ping. Early in the second quarter, quarterback Monty Parker hit
end Terry Melancon deep for a 54 yard bomb and the Jackets first
touchdown. Johnny Oubre then kicked the first of three perfect
extra points. Later, the Jackets got the ball back and started mov-
ing with three consecutive passes; two Parker to Anderson com-
binations and one to Hammond. Then Bryan Thompson crashed
over from the four. Pasadena received the ball in the third quar-
ter. A few plays later, Kim Bergman ended their drive with a beau-
tiful pass interception. On the Jackets second play from scrim-
mage Steve Ritchey hit Melancon in the end zone for a twenty
yard TD. Pasadena once again got the kickoff and once again
had their drive halted, this time by a Mike Owens interception.
The fourth quarter started with a 59 yard bomb from Parker to
Hammond, but on the next play a fumble gave the ball to the
Eagles. The last Eagle drive was halted by Bergman covering a
fumble, thus preserving our second win.LONNIE LEDET
