PRESIDENT S MESSAGE
by Paul Hammerschmidt
The new state fiscal year is upon us, and ArkLaTex 2000 is
just around the corner.
Charlie is doing a tremendous job coordinating with
Arkansas and Louisiana in the preparation of the ArkLaTex
2000 joint meeting.
Last newsletter I mentioned those TCAFS members who are
state employees may be required to stay in Texas and
commute to Shreveport. That ruling has been reversed, and
out-of-state travel will be approved, at least by Texas Parks
and Wildlife. Now is the time to plan for the TCAFS meeting
and let your supervisors know.
In addition, get with Gordon Linam if you have a
presentation you are interested in making during the technical
session. He needs all proposals ASAP so they can go through
the Chapter's review process.
If you had a chance to attend the National meeting in North
Carolina, I would be interested in hearing from you via e-mail
about how the meeting went, and any hot-button issues
discussed.
Finally, PLEASE REVIEW THE Fishery Workers' Directory
on Line. We need to get updated information about you in
order to keep the Directory current.Hope all goes well with you this fall. See you in Shreveport
in January.
Thanks.
ArkLaTex 2000
The Texas Chapter AFS meeting will be a joint meeting with
the Arkansas and Louisiana Chapters and will be held in
Bossier City, Louisiana, January 23-25, 2000. Out of state
travel has been authorized for TPWD employees, so all will
be staying at the meeting.
There is a lot to do in Bossier City so come prepared to learn
and have fun. We are planning two concurrent technical
sessions so get your presentation ready and send your abstract
to Gordon Linam at 505 Staples Road, San Marcos, TX
78666, gordon.linam@tpwd.state.tx.us. The deadline for
presentation submission is November 3, 1999.
Here's a list of some of the fun things available in Bossier
City.
The American Rose Center
Louisiana Downs Horse Racing
Red River Water Taxi
Casino's
Riverfront Entertainment District
Shreveport Mudbugs Hockey
