Foley's Thanksgiving Parade
Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25th, Houstonians lining
downtown Houston's Main Street and those watching on
TV at home were treated to a most unique sight - the
appearance of the first Chinese float in the annual
Thanksgiving Parade, sponsored by Foley's Department
Stores. Though the theme of this year's 33rd annual
parade was cartoon characters such as Ziggy and Popeye,
Foley's parade coordinator Edwina Fraley saw fit to
feature the traditional Lion and Dragon dances (coordi-
nated by Dr. Allen J. Lee), and a float featuring Miss
Chinatown Houston, Virginia Chang. The float was spon-
sored by Main On Food Corp., whose almond cookies,
packed in a pink box, are legend in Chinese circles,
