ACADEMY TREE.
Students Remember Each Other
Before Parting for the
Holidays.
On Wednesday evening Decem-
ber 20 the students of the Acade-
my enjoyed their annual Xmas tree.
It was given early this year so that
all the students might participate
before leaving'fer the holidays.
The exercices opened with pray-
er followed by recitations by sev-
eral little girls. Dr. Nunn then
gave an interesting description of
Christmas trees and Christmas cus-
toms in the Fatherland and told
the legend of the first Christmas
tree. Mr. W. II. Fuqua followed
with an instructive talk on the op-
portunities and advantages of our
young people exhorting them to
try to realize the highest possibili
ties of life. He closed his remarks
by hoping that Aniarillo Academy
would soon have buildings com-
mensurate with its needs and wor-
thy of its work.
At the close of the program Santa
Claus noisily made his appearance
bearing a huge sack on his should
ers and after a brief talk to the
children began the distribution of
presents to the delight of all as the
jolly old fellow had not forgotten
any one. and many were loaded
with presents.
All the boardine pupils will
spend the holidays at their respect
ive homes and have expressed the
determination to return to school
with a fresh supply of ardor and
enthusiasm for their work after
their well-earned holiday.
Coughing Spell Caused Death.1
"Harry Duckwell aged 25 years
choked to death early yesterday
morning at his home in the pres
ence of his wife and child. He
contracted a cold a few days ago
and paid but little attention to it.
Yesterday morning he was seized
with a fit of coughing which con
tinued for 6ome time. His wife
sent for a physician but before he
could arrive another coughing
spell came on and Duckwell died
from suffocation. St Louis Globe

places in Armstrong county. We
hope not to lose Bro. Mayes as a
citizen and are glad to have Mr.
McClure with us. He made a good
Confederate soldier and as Gen.
Forest said in his farewell address
to his command "the man who
made a good soldier will make a
good citizen" we feel assured it
will be verified in this case. Mr.
McClure has gone to Hill county to
wind up his business but will re-
turn soon to take up his home on
the plains. Bro. Mayes expects to
visit his old home in Hill county
soon but will probably return to
spend hisdays here.Claude News.
