76 FIFTH ANNUAL REPORT OF THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA
The trade-mark .and patent protection of our official design and
emblem help to prevent boys from being unfairly exploited by those
who seek to take commercial advantage of the popularity of the Scout
Movement. Whenever this emblem is lawfully used, the Boy Scouts of
America guarantee all that is claimed for the article.
Because of the volume of business done, it is possible to provide
equipment of highest grade at the lowest prices consistent with quality,
and in this way a material saving has been effected for the benefit of
the boys and of Scout Officials in the field.

the growing organization.
Catalogs of New Equipment
In June, 1914, the department's second catalog was published, con-
taining in addition to equipment formerly listed, nearly one hundred
items not previously handled. Copies were sent to all Scoutmasters
and Commissioners, and the policy was adopted of mailing a catalog to
each newly enrolled Scout and leader, commencing July 1st, in order
to make the services of the Supply Department available to them. To
facilitate this arrangement' the catalog was reprinted in its entirety as
a part of the July 15th issue of Scouting. Further than this, the De-
cember number of Boys' Life included ten pages devoted to equipment
handled by the Supply Department, offering approximately fifty new
