service involves great personal sacrifice. From 5 to 30 hours a week,
week after week and month after month, and in many cases, year after
year, is what the average troop demands of the scoutmaster. It is in order
that he may serve efficiently, and with the least amount of personal bur-
den and hardship in interpreting the Scout Movement uniformly from
our official Handbooks that we have our Local Councils, and our National
Council. Indeed, it is in order that we may serve him in serving boys
that this and all similar scout meetings merit our time and best thought.
Each year there has been not only a steady increase in the number of
men willing to accept the responsibilities involved in the leadership of
a group of boys, but a higher quality in the men to whom we have been
able to make a successful appeal.
The following table of statistics as to the nationality, occupations, edu-
cation, experience and church preference of this group of men and infor-
mation as to the institution and place of meeting of the various troops
will be of interest to all:
