PLANNING A DEGREE
(Undergraduate)
Student Responsibility
This catalog is designed to make planning and scheduling a degree
program as simple as possible. Each student at Abilene Christian
University should keep in mind, however, that he or she alone is
ultimately responsible foir understanding and tillilling all dcgreec
requirements.
Help in degree planning is available fiom several sources (such as
offices of the co~llcgce dean, department chair, fEcultv, and adviscr),
but the student must make sure that rccommendations, course
plans, and total hours are correct in relation to the catalog.
Problems should b referred to the Provost.
Students are responsible for their own degree plans and for the
completion of all requirements for the degrees which they seek.Note that each degree-seeking student must fulfill certain
requirement areas:
1. University Core Requirements
2. Degree Core Requirements
3. Departmental core or special requirements (if specified in the
catalog)
4. Major requirements (including supplements)
5. Electives (to achieve minimum upper division and total hour
requirements)
Using this Catalog
In the following sections, the academic program is described in
detail arranged by department or topic. The departmental
descriptions should be used in conjunction with the Degree Plan
Notebook (available in Deans' offices, the Registrar's office, the
Welcome Center, and the Brown Library) which contains a visual
depiction of each approved degree offered at ACU.
For more information on degree requirements, see the departmental
sections of this catalog or contact the major adviser.
Schedule Bulletins are published prior to the beginning of
registration periods for spring, summer, and fall terms, near the
middle of each long semester. However, the schedule of classes is
available at mark.acu.edu/schedulebulletin.asp a few weeks before the
paper copy is available

Principles for Scheduling Classes
Past experience suggests that failure to comply with the following
suggestions often results in academic and/or scheduling problems
fbr the student.
1. Be familiar with the catalog, especially those sections that
relate to the major, before seeking counsel from an adviser.
2. Seek counsel from the academic adviser and/or department
chair.
3. Follow the requirements for the major as outlined in the
department section of the catalog.
4. General education requirements (University and Degree
Core requirements), except advanced courses, should be
completed by the end of the sophomore year.
5. Some courses are offered less than once a year. Failure to
schedule these courses at the proper time may delay
graduation.
Scheduling Policies
1. Freshmen must enroll in classes in Bible, English, EXSC
(including EXSC 100), and Uni\versity Seminar, unless they
have completed requirements in these areas. Students may
wait until their sophomore year to begin literature
requirements.
2. Before enrolling in a class, satisfy all prerequisites for the
course. If this is not done, the student will be required to
withdraw from the course. The experience will prove to be
both frustrating and time consuming.
Admission to Major
1. Education majors should apply for admission to the teachereducation program with the Department of Education during
