SHADES is a multicultural student step squad
that uses its talents to minister to others through
the art of stepping. The team participates
in many activities, shows and competitions
throughout the year.
"For nearly a decade, SHADES has promoted
diversity and unity on the campus of Abilene
Christian University. In recent years, SHADES
has grown tremendously. With membership e
never falling below 23 members, the group
continues to make strides toward reflecting the
kingdom of Heaven," says the SHADES history
statement found on www.acu.edu.
The head captain of SHADES is Camari
Carter, senior political science major from Los
Angeles. Other officers include men's captain
D. Jay Wells, senior missions and marketing
major from Atlanta, Ga; women's captains Sara
Eligado, senior nursing major from San Jose,
Calif., and Becca Schumacher, junior inte-
rior design major from Abilene; and treasurer
Meghan Dailey, senior biochemistry major from A b.
San Antonio.
Their first big performance took place dur-
ing Lectureship, where the team stepped to an
a-capella song similar to their performance at
