Snow Sisters

I watched her, with tears falling slowly down her
face before absorbing into the carpet beneath her.
Something I would never understand, though
many times I have had the same thoughts. Her
words were glued to the air above our heads,
"Run away."
Hours later we are comforted by the soft white
cold that embraces every branch, leaf, or blade
of grass.
Hard balls of tightly packed snow explode on my
shoulder. Laughter, and giggles shatter the night
sky.
Finger tips freeze.
We walk on.
We stare up at a lantern in the street. The
small white flakes of heaven seem to be falling
everywhere around us. A taste of peace in
the midst of insanity, a sample of life rare and
beautiful.98
