Twin Expositions.
Two Expositions in one year,
in the same State, would hardly
be attempted anywhere outside
of California, especially with no
Government subsidy or appro-
priation. But San Diego and
San Franciso will each have an
Exposition in celebration of the
Panama Canal in 1915, and the
former city is not yet in the 50,-
000 class; yet it raised $1,000,000
by subscription and another mil-
by a bond issue for exposition
purposes. The scope of the ex-
position has grown so that it is
determined now that it will be a
$10,000,000 exposition, and it
growing all the time.

New Heating System.
The old hot air heating system
that has been in fhe court house
since its completion in 1897 is to
be removed and replaced by a
Bailey on Cowards.
No one who knows Senator
Joseph W. Bailey will,gay that
he lacks courage. Therefore it i
is natural that he hates cowards, j
The Senator recently expressed,
the opinion that very few men in
in Congress were venal or cor-
rupt, but he declared that most
of them were cowards, afraid to
live up to their convictions be-
cause of the effect might have on
their constituents. The Senator
condemned vigorously this trait
in men in public life and declared
that when he found that he
could not honestly exercise his
convictions in Congress, he
would resign and retire to priv-
ate life.
more modern steam heating
plant. The steam registers have
arrived and the boiler is expect-
ed daily, together with the pipns
for the transfer of ^team. Work
is to be begun of removing the
old plant within the next few
days. The contract for install-
ing the new system was let to
Kennison Bros, of Dallas for
$2,331 and is to be completed by
September 25. The old plant has
caused a great deal of incon-
venience as well as discomfort
in past years. It has often got-
ten out of repair and failed to
heat the numerous large rooms
of the court house, and several
of the county officials have been
forced to resort to oil stoves dur-
ing the coldest weather Den-
