From School
Evangelist
The following letter, from School
Evangelist H. F. Vermillion, has
been addressed to the Baptists of
Collin county:
Brethren: On October 20, 1910,
l became school evangelist for North
Texas Baptist Academy. The school
owed at that time about $5,000.
About half of this bore ten per cent
interest and about half of it bore
eight per cent.
The duty assigned me with refer-
ence to this debt was to collect mon-
ey with which to pay it, in addi-
tion to collecting my own salary and
expenses and enough to keep the in-
terest paid on the debt as well as all
other expenses Incurred In carrying
on the outside work of the school.
The extreme drouth and the low
price of what cotton was made,
made my work difficult. Another
difficulty existed in the belief of
many that the Academy was poorly
located.
Altogether I collected for the
school over $7,500. The mortgage
debt has been reduced to less than
$2 10, my salary has been paid, the
interest on the debt has been paid,
expenses of the campaign have been
paid and about $100 has been paid
for improvements on the bunding, a
charter has been secured and paid
for, the school under the name of
Westminster Academy has been re-
ceived into the State Baptist System
of Schools upon condition of the pay-
ment of the remainder of the debt
and $2,500 appropriated to finish
the building when the school comes
into the correlation.
Of course every one knows that I
have not accomplished all this. The
school has had hundreds of loyal
friends who have helped. Brother
Joseph Pearce and many others are
worthy of special mention as having
done all In their power.
But It. was not so much to tell you
what has been done ns to tell you
what remains to be done that I
write this letter. There yet remains
nearly $240 of the mortgage debt
and two or three small open ac-
counts that ought to be speedily
paid. The Academy would then
come into the correlation automati-
cally and would be assured of a gen-
erous support.
I have removed to Clovis, New
Mexico, but I shall ever have a kind-
ly feeling and a thankful heart for
by Texas friends.
